Six people is a party. Two people is a conversation.
At a table of six you get maybe twenty minutes of real talk, split between whoever is loudest and whoever is sitting nearest. It is a good night out. It is not the same as properly meeting someone. With one person across the table there is nowhere to hide, which sounds daunting and is exactly the point.
The food matters as much as the company.
Somewhere new you have been meaning to discover, or somewhere you already know is good and feel comfortable walking into. Either way it is your choice. Pick the restaurant, join its virtual waitlist, and we find someone who wants to eat there too. The meal is the plan, not a venue assigned to you on a Wednesday.
You see who it is before anything is agreed.
You can say what kind of company you are hoping for, and it can be different for a casual izakaya and an upscale French place. When someone compatible joins the same waitlist you both review the match, and either of you can pass. Your matching preferences, including gender, are hard filters rather than suggestions.
Meshii is the better choice when
It comes down to discernment. You have taste in food and taste in company, and this is built so both get a say.
- ·
You care where you eat. Somewhere new worth discovering, or somewhere you already trust. Not whichever venue was assigned this week. You pick, and we find someone who wants to eat there too.
- ·
A table of six is exhausting. If group settings feel like a performance rather than a conversation, one person across the table is the version that actually works. No talking over five people to be heard.
- ·
You care who you eat with. Say what makes for good company, and change it per restaurant, because the right person for a counter seat is not the right person for a tasting menu. Review every match and pass with no explanation.
- ·
Your free night is Tuesday. Travelling, on shifts, or just free when you are free. Nothing here happens on a fixed weekly night.
- ·
You want dinner, not a new social circle. One good meal with one interesting person, and no expectation of anything after it. Not a date, not a group you now belong to.
And when Timeleft is the better choice
If you want the energy of a full table, or a standing weekly routine rather than a meal at a time, that is what they are built for and they do it at real scale. They are also in more cities today. San Francisco is our first and more are coming, so if you are elsewhere, put your name down and you will be first when we reach you.
Common questions
What is the main difference between Meshii and Timeleft?
Table size and who chooses. Timeleft seats you with five other people at a restaurant it selects, on its weekly dinner night. Meshii matches you one-on-one at a specific San Francisco restaurant you picked yourself, on a night that suits you.
Is Meshii a dating app?
No, and neither is Timeleft. Meshii is built for solo diners and travellers who want one interesting person to share a meal with. Nothing romantic is implied and nothing is expected after the meal.
Does Meshii work outside San Francisco?
San Francisco is our first city and more are coming. We are doing one city properly before we spread, because a matching product is only as good as the number of people in it. If you are somewhere else, sign up anyway and you will be first to know when your city opens.
Can I choose who I am matched with on Meshii?
Yes. You can attach a +1 profile to any waitlist describing the kind of company you are hoping for, and you review every match before anything is confirmed. Either side can pass, and nothing happens until you both say yes.
What does Meshii cost?
Nothing during the San Francisco launch. Every paid feature is free right now, and the plans for afterwards are published on our pricing page.
